Not to leave anyone on the edge of their seats…
In a nutshell, Derek and I decided we would move to San Diego – job or no job – by the time our lease was up. We saved the money, we started selling furniture, and we continued the job search.
One day, I received a call regarding a resume I sent for an internship at a small digital marketing agency – I was intrigued. Obviously, an internship after having been out of college for 5 years is a little unorthodox, but I was starting to think that unorthodox is what makes successful people successful.
Digital Marketing was a discipline I knew little about, but with research and multiple interviews, it started to feel right. I always wondered what the heck I was going to do with a degree in Marketing and a minor in Computer Information Systems. The only reason I even pursued the minor was because the computer classes were so much fun – when I realized most of my other classmates didn’t have the same sentiment, I figured why not go for it. I remember how I’d spend hours programming in Java Script and Visual Basic, and despite the frustration at times, I was still invigorated by it.
I have no idea why I’ve never thought of this before. Digital Marketing was a natural fit for my strengths and interests. The more I researched, the more I wanted the internship…and luckily, as I found out three weeks ago, the internship wanted me too.
I received the call on September 30 and was on the road to San Diego on October 8th – the internship began October 12th…talk about a whirlwind. My husband drove out to San Diego with me, and then flew back to Columbus to get the rest of the apartment packed up. I knew we wouldn’t see each other for the next month or so, but again, you have to do what you have to do to get where you want to be in life.
So that’s how I ended up on an air mattress…without a job (kinda)….in San Diego. So enough of the back story…let’s talk Digital Marketing!
