One night, I was feeling a bit tense and uneasy…okay, I’ll be real. I was having a “what’s the meaning of life?!” moment…so I asked Alexa to play a relaxing song.
She chose “Gangsta’s Paradise.”
The opening line:
“As I walk through the valley of the shadow of death…”
I stood there in my kitchen, hands clutching the counter, contemplating life, thinking “This is exactly not what I needed right now.”
Which raises an interesting question about how these algorithms are trained.
Because in Alexa’s defense, the song is slow and reflective.
Almost meditative.
Just… about existential dread.
It turns out that “relaxing” is a surprisingly subjective category.
To Alexa, it apparently means
“contemplating mortality over a steady beat.”
To me, it means something closer to ocean waves.
But the moment did make me laugh.
Sometimes the universe winks at you, just to let you know it’s still watching and you’re not alone.
And sometimes the universe shows you the thing you actually need is different than what you think you need. And in this case, I apparently needed to hear Gangsta’s Paradise.
Remember to trust the process, friends. You’re exactly where you need to be.
