Stumbling for a Good Idea

I haven’t posted on a while, I’m a horrible blogger.  However, I had to share my latest finding: StumbleUpon is a community manager’s best friend.

One of the challenges I’ve found when managing social media for my company, is that everyone tweets and retweets the big news of the day/week/month.  It’s rare to see fresh content within the industry you’re in.  That’s where StumbleUpon comes into play.

For those who don’t know, StumbleUpon is a social bookmarking tool.  You select your interests and StumbleUpon forwards you to sites that you may find interesting, based on your selections (this process is called “stumbling”).  You can elect to like or dislike the site, and StumbleUpon refines their recommendations for you based on those elections.  Sometimes the article and website are new, sometimes they’re oldies but goodies.  Think of it as Pandora for websites.

StumbleUpon reminds you just how vast the internet is, and how easy it is for priceless nuggets of information to get buried.

It’s great for personal use, but it’s even better for finding useful article for your organization that the whole world isn’t already tweeting and posting about.

Open a StumbleUpon account just for your business’ use, select your industry as interests and start stumbling.  Your friends and followers will thank you. 🙂

  1. It’s Allison, your neighbor from across the pool. I’m enjoying your blog 🙂
StumbleUpon is something that has recently caught my eye, and after reading this post, I am even more interested in checking it out. A friend of mine was recently on SU on his phone, and based on the stuff he was finding, I could tell that the site successfully delivers compelling info based on one’s interests.

    1. Thanks for the kind words! Yes, StumbleUpon is amazing. I just read today that the traffic that sites receive from StumbleUpon has surpassed the traffic from Facebook.
