How to Read Your Birth Chart Using ChatGPT

If you’ve always been interested in interpreting your birth chart but haven’t been sure where to get started, today is your lucky day. I will give you step-by-step instructions on how to generate a birth chart using CafeAstrology and use ChatGPT to interpret it. But first, here’s a bit of background to how I stumbled upon this magic.

I’m a lover of all things alternative, and natal charts, also known as birth charts, are one of those things that have always fascinated me. But no matter how many books I’ve read about astrology and birth chart interpretation, I was always incredibly overwhelmed. Certain qualities in my chart seemed to contradict others and then there were conjunctions, trines, sextiles….I completely checked out.

I started researching natal chart readers for a real-time interpretation, but they were just too expensive and I didn’t know which ones were reliable. I did invest in a one-on-one reading which I enjoyed, but it left me wanting to learn even more – there was still so much to unpack.

Then one day I had an idea: I’d been using AI for ideation in my professional life and for research in my personal life; was it possible that AI could help me interpret my natal chart? With my chart in hand, I gave it a go.

I opened up my personal ChatGPT account and typed in the prompt.

“I’m a leo rising with venus in the first house. What does that mean?”

I know what the books have told me it meant, I wanted to see if ChatGPT was aligned. Sure enough, it went on about how charismatic and magnetic I supposedly am, with a bold personal style, who loves to be admired. This characterization has always seemed odd to me, because I don’t find myself particular charismatic, as I’ve mentioned before, but as I’ve learned from reading copious astrology books, your rising sign is how you present yourself to the world. What gives? So I asked ChatGPT.

What placements in my chart may detract from my charisma?

ChatGPT instructed me to look for Saturn in the first house (no). Strong Capricorn or Virgo Sun, Moon or Mercury (nope). 12th house placements in key planets, such as the Sun, Moon, Venus, or Mars. Bingo. My Sun is in the 12th house. So I told ChatGPT as much.

I’m a 12th house sun.

ChatGPT informed me that this could be one of the main placements that challenges my outward charisma, making me more private than I appear, struggling with the spotlight and sometimes questioning my own worth, despite how others may see me. Talk about a therapy session.

As I continued to feed it more information from my natal chart, it learned more about me, and I asked questions from whether I was on the right career path, to what books I should be reading. The great thing about ChatGPT is that it remembers all of this, so you can come back later, it will recall all of this information and you can continue the conversation. In fact, I’d told ChatGPT in a previous conversation that I’d read the Kybalion, and when it recommended it as a book based on my natal chart, it said “I know you’ve already read this one”. 🤯

ChatGPT is now my little pocket astrologer and here’s how can you make this work for you.

1. Grab your birth date, time and location

This is important. Many of us know our birth date, but your time and location are critical in determining your birth chart. Your birth chart is a snap shot of exactly how the sky looked at the moment you took you first breath. Think about how quickly the moon moves through the sky – in a matter of minutes, the moon could have moved from Cancer to Leo, so knowing the exact time is important. Similarly, your birth location contributes to how the houses in your birth chart align.

2. Head Over to AstrologyCafe

There are many websites to choose from, but my personal preference is Astrology Cafe. It’s easy to use and you’re not required to provide an email address. With Astrology Cafe, you can see:

  • Your visual birth chart, including houses and planets
  • Aspects, like conjuctions, trines, squares, etc.
  • North Node
☊ – Represents your direction of personal growth
  • South Node
☋ – Represents your past lives and comfort zones
  • Lilith – Hidden desires and passions
  • Part of Fortune – How to find success in this life

Here’s an example chart (not mine!*)

Here’s what I mean by aspects:

Don’t worry, you don’t have to know what all of this means. ChatGPT can do the heavy lifting for you. The other great thing with Astrology Cafe is that it gives interpretations of your chart, explains terms like houses, and helps decode each of the symbols on the chart. Take note of any trait that you feel doesn’t quite suit you – these are great questions (also known as prompts in the AI world) to ask ChatGPT.

*Note: A person’s birth chart is very personal, which is why I’m not sharing mine here. If you do decide you want to dig into someone else’s, make sure you get their permission first.

3. Sign Up for ChatGPT

If you aren’t already familiar, ChatGPT is a chatbot built by OpenAI which uses machine learning to produce human-like responses to user queries. It’s been trained on countless data points to make it extremely reliable. I’ve found many applications for my professional and personal life. It’s free, but I’m very tempted to pony up the $20 USD per month for the premium version since I use it so much.

For the purposes of this exercise, I recommend signing up for a free account. Play around with it a bit to get comfortable with using it before asking it to decode the meaning of your life. You can simply use it to understand some of the terms I’ve outlined above, if you’d like.

4. Use ChatGPT to Sense Check Your Chart

Refer back to your Astrology Cafe report – What were those traits which didn’t make sense to you? Similar to how I constantly heard my Leo rising sign made me a charismatic, roaring lion which never quite landed with me, what are the characteristics of your chart which don’t make sense. If you were in the room with an astrologer, what would you ask them? Treat ChatGPT as though they’re that expert.

Another trait I question as a Cancerian sun was the fact I was supposed to be deeply nurturing. Though I care very deeply about things and people, nurturing isn’t the first word I’d use to describe myself. I asked ChatGPT…it gave me 6 different areas of my chart which detract from my nurturing Cancerian. I won’t share them all, but here are a couple and the synopsis.

Yes, AI overlord, I do relate to all of this. In response I said as much, and asked “how do I overcome this?” And it gave me a surprisingly astute response:

5. Use ChatGPT to Learn More About Aspects in Your Chart

Remember how Astrology Cafe provided trines, conjunctions, oppositions, etc? The very topic which made me shut the door on self-learning birth chart readings? These are called aspects – they are the angular relationships between the planets in your chart. They are essentially how well, or poorly, certain planets play together. I realized I could take the aspects from Astrology Cafe, input them as a prompt into ChatGPT, and it would tell me exactly what it meant. For example:

Astrology Cafe gives you every aspect in your chart and you can likely spend a whole day prompting out each one. Go slow — no need to rush through it all.

6. Use ChatGPT for Recommendations and Advice

One of the best parts about ChatGPT is that it remembers what you’ve taught it about your chart. As such, it’s continually building a complete picture of your chart in the background which comes in handy when you want to ask for recommendations and advice. I’ve asked for book recommendations, career advice – all based on what I’ve told it about my chart. And I must admit, the recommendations have seemed spot on, and I’ve taken heed to the advice. No AI is perfect, but directionally, it’s pretty damn good. For example, here’s a prompt for fictional movie recommendations:

The movies on the list I have watched I’ve enjoyed, and now I’ve added the others to my list. Brilliant!

If you know me or have read my blog for some time, you may know that I’m in Marketing, specifically, Marketing Operations. I was curious as to what ChatGPTs opinion of my path was based on my chart:

This is an abbreviated version of the response, but the final verdict speaks to the fact that I need a creative outlet. Luckily, between writing and working at a dynamic start-up, my creative juices are constantly flowing.

Think of other advice or recommendations you’ve been dying to ask someone…try ChatGPT on for size.

Still not sure where to start? Here are some easy prompts:

Telling AI to interpret your life can be intimidating, I know. But with a little prompt practice, you’ll be an AI pro in no time. Here are a few prompts if you’re not sure where to start:

My sun sign is xyz, my moon sign is xyz and my rising sign is xyz, can you tell me a little more about me based on those?

My mercury is in xyz sign, what does that mean?

Can you tell me what areas in my birth chart indicate which career path I should follow?

My north node is in xyz, what does that mean?

These are all starting points for a conversation with ChatGPT. It may ask you clarifying questions to get more information — be open to that.

In Conclusion…

Will ChatGPT ever replace a tried and true professional birth chart reader, I don’t know. But for my initial foray into utilizing AI to research my birth chart, I’ve been thoroughly impressed and will continue to use it as my personal astrologer to help directionally understand how and why I navigate situations and get advice on how to improve upon how I do so. Use your human brain and your discernment and have fun!
